Diet & Nutrition
In my opinion, majority of individuals know that good nutritional habits are an important factor in their overall health. However, I'm apprehensive to say that most people realize to what extent quality nutrients play in determining how they feel physically. Since our body's energy supply comes from what we eat, the foods we consume on a daily basis play a significant role in our general well-being, ability to fight and possibly prevent potential diseases (e.g. cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and certain cancers) and our ability to achieve specific fitness goals.
Your body is a machine. You must give it the nourishment it needs by consuming nutrient-rich foods which will provide the energy needed to function at optimal levels, maintain stable blood sugar levels and stay satiated.
How do we define healthy eating? Maintaining a well-rounded diet consisting of protein, quality carbohydrates such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats is the answer. To have a healthier lifestyle, we need to incorporate good nutritional habits into our daily routine. Remember, variety is key! Be sure to include an array of multi-colored produce into your diet. Eating several meals/snacks evenly spaced throughout your day can help maintain, or even boost your metabolism, especially if you're used to skipping meals.
This is just the tip of the iceberg regarding healthy nutrition for daily living. I'll address different topics in future entries.
